Surviving the Dog Days of Summer →
veterinaryrambles:
Tips from a fellow DVM on how to keep your beloved pets safe, happy and healthy during those boiling summer days. A lot of common sense, but oftentimes such common sense gets forgotten, or people don’t realize that what makes them feel uncomfortable and ill will usually do the same to their pet. Keep your critters cool this summer!

When you know what you are going in for, how to avoid a tail slapping you in the face, and how to avoid projectile feces, rectal palpation of cows isn’t as awkward as it seems. It is definitely not the most disgusting thing a veterinarian may encounter, if you can believe that!

a couple of bats flew into the tri-kap frat house...
and N and i were so thrilled to have them flying so close. i looked online and it said one of the ways you could get a bat out of the house was to stand outside your open door and make a scratching noise on something so that the sound waves help it see the door opening. i went outside and banged on something with a remote i found in the living room until the bats left.

When To Take A Vomiting Dog To The Vet →
listen-look-feel:
If your veterinarian can’t even tell what’s wrong with your dog or predict his outcome after a physical exam, blood tests and x-rays, there’s no WAY you can tell what’s wrong or predict how things will go at home.
Instead of trying to predict your dog’s future, here’s what we recommend.

After returning home from work, Katie noticed that her dog, Brutus, was acting strange. Brutus was an avid chewer and loved his toys, but occasionally, he would get into something he shouldn’t have, and a new pair of shoes or a blanket would be found ruined. In this case, he was vomiting and…

i really thought i was going to be so psyched about this physiology class but so far the only thing i enjoy is the lab. i think the prof is pretty disorganized and loves the nervous system so much he dedicated like 3 days to it, and put the endocrine and reproductive systems on the same day by flying through the material. i like how he talks to us in lab but i think he’s a pretty bad...

Elephants have the longest gestation period of any mammal, lasting a staggering 22 months. Most mammals have 1 corpus luteum, a temporary endocrine structure that serves to regulate hormone levels during pregnancy. Elephants, on the other hand, can have as many as 11. From Science Mag:
